Teaching Philosophy

Creativity is a birthright

It is the birthright of every human being to express himself through art, music, theater, dance, and other creative pursuits. I take great joy in nurturing my students, to help them develop the skills and sensitivity to express the beauty and creativity that is within them.

Everyone can grow

I personally heartily believe Suzuki’s core tenet that every child can learn – child being defined for me as anyone who is breathing! His approach and materials enable me to empower my students to enjoy their playing at every level, while continually striving to make their playing more beautiful.

We build community

Through their musical study, students grow in their ability not just to play music, but to participate constructively as community members. Students learn to listen carefully, to follow and to lead, to appreciate differences, to be diligent, to enjoy others’ successes as well as their own, to build one another up by noticing what is working well, and to try something new with confidence and courage.

I love my job!
